5 Fabrics Used to Make Fabric Bags

Home News & Articles

Choosing the fabric for a fabric bag or fashion tote is one of the first steps customers take when ordering fabric bag production. Fabrics vary widely, and each gives the bag a different feel. Fabric bag shapes are relatively few, but the choice of fabric is what sets them apart — and there are many fabrics to choose from. As a manufacturer, we recommend the fabrics most popular for bag production:

  1. Canvas
Similar in look to sackcloth or calico, canvas is woven from tightly packed yet soft fibers and has a thicker weave than calico, which is why it is so popular for fabric bags.
  2. Polyester
More durable than natural fibers and highly flexible, this fabric has a firmer surface. Bags made from it hold their shape well, are washable, dry quickly, and keep their form — making polyester well suited to fabric bags.
  3. Quanta fabric
Produced through a meticulous process, starting with the selection of high-quality fibers, then woven at a higher density than ordinary fabrics. Bags made from Quanta fabric tend to be relatively expensive.
  4. Bleached and lightweight calico
Calico comes both bleached and unbleached. Natural, unbleached calico has a yellowish, almost brownish tint, a somewhat rough texture, and small dark specks from cotton seeds. It is thick like sackcloth and does not tear easily.
  5. Spunbond
A synthetic non-woven fabric made not by weaving but by extruding continuous heated filaments back and forth onto a conveyor, where they bond together and are embossed into a fabric-like sheet. It is durable and resistant to pulling and tearing, making it well suited to fabric bags.
